Connecting with Cabbage Growers: XanthoSTOP at Kupusijada
The XanthoSTOP research team visited the traditional Kupusijada festival in Futog on 25 October 2025 to present the latest results of our project to cabbage growers and promote the concept of biological control of black rot.
During discussions with producers, we highlighted the potential of beneficial bacteria in suppressing the plant pathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, as well as the advantages of environmentally friendly solutions in sustainable crop production.
This visit enabled a direct exchange of experiences, provided insight into growers’ needs, and helped strengthen future project activities in collaboration with end users.
XanthoSTOP aims to develop an environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides, commonly used for black rot control, by harnessing beneficial properties of plant-associated bacteria isolated from autochtonous cabbage cv. Futoški.
