Go Back

Two weeks ago, at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Belgrade – Institute for Multidisciplinary Research, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia (IMSI), the Open Door Day of the project XanthoSTOP was held.

In addition to the project presentation delivered by the PI, Dr. Aleksandra Jelusić, attendees had the opportunity to hear three invited lectures from researchers at the Faculty of Biology and the Institute of Soil Science:

  • Dr Ivica Dimkić, University of Belgrade – Faculty of Biology
    TERRA_MADRE: an overview
(TERRA_MADRE project funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, PRIZMA program)
  • Dr Tamara Janakiev, University of Belgrade – Faculty of Biology
“Soil microbiome of Serbia: a hidden treasure of sustainable agriculture”
(TERRA_MADRE project funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, PRIZMA program)
  • Dr Magdalena Knežević, Institute of Soil Science, Belgrade
“Development of a multifunctional bacterial inoculant to enhance biological control in cereal production”
(BioHealCrop project funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, PROMIS2023 program)

The event was conceived as a day dedicated to biological control, sustainable agriculture, and plant protection, highlighting projects supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia through various funding schemes. Students and researchers from IMSI had the opportunity to learn more about the research topics, ask questions, and discuss ongoing results. The Open Door Day contributed to the promotion of projects and fostered stronger collaboration among researchers.

XanthoSTOP aims to develop an environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides, commonly used for black rot control, by harnessing beneficial properties of plant-associated bacteria isolated from autochtonous cabbage cv. Futoški.
